Questions like these affect us all. Together, we will find the answers. At Maastricht University, we work with students, lecturers, researchers, regional companies, and other educational institutions to tackle both the big and small questions of our time. Discover how others are making a difference.

How can we make the world more fair?

We wish we could say that the rule of law is just and fair. Unfortunately, that doesn’t hold true for all. Not all of our prosperity is equally distributed to everyone. The Dutch childcare benefits scandal did happen. And when picturing a CEO, most people still envision a white male before anyone else.

Various faculties at Maastricht University are working together to change that. Through research and education, we dive into the intersections of law, politics, and technology. Together, we think about how we can redesign our society to be more fair for everyone.

Explore our current research and education on diversity and social inclusion and discover how you can contribute to finding tomorrow's answers.

"You look great for your age!"

might sound like a compliment, but it’s not if you ask Aagje Swinnen, professor of Aging Studies. She explores the cultural meanings of aging and the stigmas surrounding it. How do we break free from our obsession with youth?

“The law is not neutral”

PhD candidate Nozizwe Dube conducts research into intersectional discrimination. This is crucial since EU laws on discrimination assume that you can only be discriminated against for one characteristic at a time. A woman of colour facing both sexism and racism might think differently about this.
